A perfect weekend getaway from Mumbai/ Pune

Hey travelers,

The travelers of Mumbai, Pune and nearby areas are blessed in true sense owing to the fact that there are numerous mountains, beaches, and hill stations which are a bliss for the nature lovers and are great for weekend getaways. Places with bewitching beauties like Mahabaleshwar, Lonavla, Matheran and many other places are great options, but in this post, I'm going to talk about Lavasa, which is a private, planned hill city about 60 km from Pune, Maharashtra. It is located on the Western Ghats. Lavasa has been inspired by Portofino, a town in Italy.

Covering the distance through the serpentine roads to reach an enchanting destination: Lavasa; the journey to this place is as beautiful as the destination itself. Lavasa is a perfect weekend getaway for people who love serenity.
It is a great place for sightseeing as it is a perfect blend of natural and man-made beauty.

( General Information- There are no transports available in the city. Take your own vehicle, entry fee (as in June, 2018) for a four-wheeler is INR 500, that for a two-wheeler is INR 200. )

Right before entering the city, you are welcomed by the Daswe Dam.
Enter the gate that reads "Welcome to Lavasa" and follow the road for a small distance to find the entry tickets being sold.

On both sides of the road is what you call a typical hilly terrain. There are trees and bushes on both sides of the road. The turns are sharp and the roads are steep. There are many places in Lavasa that would make your trip beautiful:-

  • The Nature Trail (aka The Rain-Forest)

Upon following the road after buying the entry tickets, to your left, you'll find a hotel, "Ekaant The Retreat". Beside the hotel, is the entrance to The Nature Trail.

There are signboards and clear paths, so you'll easily be able to find your way back. It feels like you're in a real forest. As the city is constructed in a valley, there are viewpoints that enable you to see the beauty of the whole city at once. Flowers, a Butterfly garden,  bamboo canopies to rest, kids' play area and much more will keep you euphoric throughout the trail.

  • Lavasa Lake

Moving deeper into the city, you'll now find the main part of Lavasa- the Warasgaon Lake. Lavasa is constructed on the banks of this lake. The pathway that borders the lake has many restaurants and a few shops. The buildings follow a colour theme of shades of yellow and orange.

A promenade walk on those paths on a good weather day is such a bliss!

For adventure, water-sports are offered on the lake's shore. They offer peaceful boat rides, thrilling rafting, bumper boats and much more.

  • The Bridge

On the lakeside, is a bridge that takes you to the other side of the city, from over the lake. You can have a closer look at the lake from this bridge. Strolling on the bridge is a great experience in itself.

  • The Waterfalls

Enjoying the sprinkles of waterfalls is a pleasant experience, especially, when there is a gush of cold water running from the hills. The soothing cold water de-stresses you and rejuvenates your senses. Numerous waterfalls are seen in Lavasa at various places during the monsoon season. The showers of rains bring along the beautiful waterfalls.

The waterfalls are one of the best attractions in the city and are a reason to visit Lavasa for all the water babies.

Expenses:

You can reach the city by cabs or your own car or bike. On average, the cost for two per meal is INR 1,000. If you plan to spend more than a day, the hotels/apartments range from INR 3,000 to INR 20,000 per day. So, for a two-day trip, the average cost for two people is around INR 12,000 (this includes transportation, stay and meals). However, I personally recommend a one day trip.

Although Lavasa is slightly expensive, its beauty is captivating, it's definitely worth a visit.

Best time to visit:

The monsoon season is the best time to visit the city as that is the time when you can see the waterfalls and the city looks more lively and spellbinding than ever.

Here are some more pictures of the beautiful place:

Life is short, visit new places, experience new things!

That's it for this post.
Keep traveling, keep exploring!
